It is time to start committing yourselves to tour!
For many years after the war the Old Eds toured in Bournemouth
every Easter attending a rugby festival hosted by Bournemouth
RFC. Alas, that tournament no longer exists. However, we have
decided that in keeping with our Centenary year and reflecting
on our glorious past, we should revisit Bournemouth. In choosing
such a destination we are hoping that we can take a full cross
section of the club with us. Players are obviously needed but
we do have the odd Alikadoo who toured Bournemouth in the 50's & 60's
so you are also required to provide support and entertain us
with stories of when Gren got shaved and taped to a post in 1949
etc............... bored already!
Now the serious bit. Last season's tour was characterised by
endless people promising to pay deposits and never doing so.
I made upfront payments in good faith believing people would
be good to their word and many weren't. Moreover, some people
didn't pay a full deposit and then backed out nearer the time.
I made a personal loss on last year's tour and there is still
one player who owes me money. Not this year!!
Deposits of £100 are required by the end of October. Once
we are sure we have sufficient support we will make all the arrangements
with a target price of around £200 for 3 nights with 2
fixtures and a coach with us for the full weekend. I am deliberately
loading the deposit this year and I'm sure you can see why. Equally
please don't wait to see if we get enough first, get your deposit
in so we know. If we don't get sufficient numbers everyone will
get their money back.
Right serious bit over. Let's assume we get enough deposits
so that in early November we can declare the tour is happening
and we can all start to get those tour juices flowing. My target
would be to replicate and then beat the party we took to Cork
with 38 people and a great mix of players and supporters. So
don't be shy, please pay your deposits to me, Gareth or Solo
as soon as possible.
